Birminghams Hurst Street again became the hub of this years Pride Festival over the May Holiday weekend. The theme: United in Equality, was reflected in the Lord Mayors speech in Victoria Square, and a silence was held in memory of those who have died from AIDS.
Sundays events culminated in a vibrant, bold afternoon Parade full of music and dancing, but an overall sense of pride for this community. Organisations included university LGBT societies, religious and parental support groups.
The other colourful revellers included a samba band, and a host of glamourous transvestites and dancers representing the city's gay bars and clubs.
The route followed New Street, High Street, Carrs Lane, Moor Street and into Hurst Street, where the party continued into the early hours.
Evening events at the Village included a craft market, community stalls, a funfair, and music and DJ acts into the evening. On-going Pride events include a series of arts and drama events staged by the LGBT community in Birmingham.
